Three guilty in London liquid bomb trial

Published on 7 September 2009 - 5:51pm
More about:

A London court has found three British Muslim men guilty of planning bomb attacks on flights to the United States. They intended to use liquid explosives, with their home-made bombs disguised as bottles of soft drinks.

Four of the eight defendants were found not guilty and the jury was unable to reach a verdict on a fifth. The three defendants who were found guilty will be sentenced at a later date.

The arrest of the suspects in August 2006 disrupted air travel between Great Britain and the US. As a result of the incident, security checks were tightened at airports all over the world, with liquids in hand baggage being banned.
