Thieving luggage handlers at Dutch airport

Published on 22 January 2010 - 1:28pm
More about:

Dutch military police have arrested nine airport workers who are suspected of having stolen objects from passengers' luggage. The officers acted on evidence supplied by closed-circuit surveillance cameras. The nine suspects were seen rummaging in travellers' suitcases.

Apparently they were after electronic gadgets, clothing, money and jewellery. Six other employees of the luggage handling department at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport were arrested last year, also on suspicion of theft. Police were able to capture them using specially prepared decoy suitcases.

A police spokesman said further arrests could not be ruled out.
