Ten people in Pakistan have been killed in a US missile attack carried out by a drone. The strike was intended to kill Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters in the northwest of the country.
Local media report that Hakimullah Mehsud, the leader of the Pakistani Taliban, was killed in the attack but the organisation has says he left the area shortly before the strike took place.
The United States regularly uses drones to carry out attacks in Pakistan. In the past 18 months, hundreds of insurgents have been killed in these attacks, but also a large number of civilians.
Last year, Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud - no relation of Hakimullah Mehsud - was killed in a drone attack.
