Taliban rocket attack on Kabul

Published on 4 August 2009 - 9:48am
More about:

Taliban fighters have fired at least eight rockets at the Afghan capital Kabul.

The Afghan police say one child was injured in the attack. The target was probably Kabul's international airport where many foreign soldiers are stationed.  Two rockets hit near the US embassy in the diplomatic district.

Rocket attacks on Kabul are a rare occurrence; residents say this was the most serious Taliban attack in years. The insurgents are reportedly trying to disrupt the presidential elections scheduled to be held on 20 August and have called for a boycott.
