A senior Taliban commander has been arrested in the Afghan province of Uruzgan. He was taken prisoner by the Afghan army, assisted by Australian troops from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.
Mullah Janan Andewahl comes from the district of Mirabad, east of the Uruzgan capital Tarin Kowt. He is believed to have been responsible for mortar and rocket attacks on Afghan and international troops, as well as the driving force behind a series of roadside bomb explosions. He was arrested together with two other Taliban fighters.
