Swedish bus drivers can send text messages

Published on 3 December 2009 - 1:29pm
More about:

Bus drivers in Sweden are allowed to send text messages while driving.

Stockholm's highest court overturned a lower court ruling which had convicted a driver of carelessness in traffic.

A passenger had filmed the driver who was busy sending text messages and writing in a notebook while driving a bus full of passengers. The bus driver was promptly sacked.

Car drivers are allowed to use mobile phones in Sweden, which is why the judge saw no reason to prosecute the bus driver.

He did say the behaviour was unsuitable.
