Sweden has ordained its first lesbian bishop. Eva Brunne was ordained bishop of Stockholm by the archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Sweden.
The Swedish King and Queen attended the ceremony.
The Lutheran church had been a state church in Sweden for four centuries, but church and state were separated in 2000.
Gay and lesbian couples have been allowed to marry in Sweden since May. The Lutheran church supports single sex marriages and recently agreed to church blessings of these marriages.
Eva Brunne (55) has a three-year-old foster child and is in a registered partnership with another woman.
