Supermarkets in Amsterdam’s poorer districts are going to reduce the prices on healthy foods next year. It’s part of a test designed to find out whether people will make a conscious effort to eat more healthily.
Healthy foods such fruit and vegetables are currently more expensive than ‘junk’ food such as crisps and burgers. However, say observers, the economic crisis is prompting more people, especially in poor areas, to eat badly because much unhealthy food is cheaper than nutritious food.
The number of supermarkets that will take part in the test is not yet known.
