Successful Soyuz launch from Kazakhstan

Published on 21 December 2009 - 9:41am
More about:

A Soyuz rocket was successfully launched from Kazakhstan on Monday morning. On board are three astronauts: one from Russia, one from Japan and one from the United States.

They are on their way to the International Space Station, which orbits 350 kilometres above Earth. They will stay there for the next six months. They expect to dock on Tuesday morning.

The Soyuz will also deliver a new viewing platform for the station. This will provide a 360-degree view of the heavens and bring the station, a sophisticated platform for scientific experiments, another step closer to completion.
