Strikes close Parisian museums

Published on 3 December 2009 - 3:31pm
More about:

A number of museums have been forced to close in Paris due to a strike.

Seven unions had called on workers in the cultural sector to take industrial action in protest against cabinet plans to scrap government jobs.

Culture Minister Frédéric Mitterrand met with the unions on Wednesday, but failed to reach an agreement.

The closures have affected the Louvre Museum, the Musée d’Orsay and the Rodin museum, as well as the Palace of Versailles and the Arc de Triomphe.
