In Chile, workers in the world’s largest copper mine have gone on strike demanding higher pay.
The Chuquicamata mine is owned by the state company Codelco. This is the largest strike at the mine since 1996.
The miners laid down their tools following a strike by workers in a copper works in Chile, who say they are close to reaching a pay agreement.
Codelco, the world’s largest copper producer, fears the mine strike will affect its turnover. The company produces an estimated 1800 tons of copper per day, which is worth more than 11 million euros.
