Figures compiled by the accountants PricewaterhouseCoopers show that the turnover of the Dutch sports sector fell by 5 percent this year. TV rights, entry fees, sponsoring and merchandising add up to a turnover of 790 million euro, which is 40 million or 4.8 percent less than last year.
The Entertainment and Media Outlook covering trends until 2013 which is published by the accountancy firm indicates that half of this drop is accounted for by the smaller yield from TV rights sales. It dropped from 150 million euros to 133 million this year; a decrease of 16.4 percent.
Even so, according to PwC, the financial crisis is hitting the sports sector less than other entertainment and media sectors. They expect the sports sector's income to recover next year because of the football World Cup and other major sporting events.
