Spain searching six ETA bombers

Published on 31 July 2009 - 4:41pm
More about:

The Spanish authorities have released the pictures and names of six members of the Basque separatist group ETA held responsible for this week's bombings.

The interior ministry says the four men and two women suspected of Wednesday's car bombing that killed two police officers on the Mediterranean island Mallorca are believed to still be hiding there. The two victims were honoured earlier on Friday in Mallorca's cathedral during a memorial service attended by dignitaries including Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Crown Prince Felipe.

On Wednesday a massive blast in the northern town of Burgos destroyed much of a police barracks, injuring some 65 people. Security measures have been stepped up across the country amid fears of further attacks coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the terrorist group's founding.
