Somali pirates jailed for 15 years

Published on 15 February 2010 - 9:17am
More about:

A Somali court has sentenced 11 pirates to 15 years in prison each. The verdicts were given in the city of Berbera, in the autonomous northern region of Somaliland.

The pirates were detained in December after they mistakenly attacked a ship belonging to the international naval force patrolling the coast of Somalia. After being disarmed, they were released. The Somali coast guard arrested them again a few days later.
