Somali clashes claim dozens of lives

Published on 3 January 2010 - 9:25pm
More about:

Fighting in Somalia between Islamist rebels and government supporters has left at least 47 people dead and over 100 injured.

Quoting eyewitness reports, a human rights group says those killed include a number of civilians who were not involved in the clashes. The fighting occurred in the town of Dhuusa Marreeb, in central Somalia. Many have fled the area. Rebels belonging to Al-Shabaab, a group linked to al-Qaeda, apparently occupied the town before it was retaken by government supporters.

Somalia has a history of blood clashes. There is so much of blood shed in this region. History just keeps repeating itself.
