Snow and frost have caused problems for traffic in many parts of the Netherlands. Although roads are in good shape in the south, throughout the rest of the country they are extremely slippery.
The most problems are being encountered in the provinces of North Holland, Friesland, Flevoland, Gelderland and Utrecht. On the Afsluitdijk, which dams the Zuiderzee between North Holland and Friesland, there were nine accidents: four drivers were injured when their vehicles drove off the road.
The Dutch national weather centre (KNMI) says the winter conditions will continue for the coming few days.
