Traffic around Amsterdam and Haarlem in the province of North Holland was disrupted by heavy snowfall on Wednesday evening. The roads around the Dutch capital could not be gritted or cleared because council vehicles were stuck in traffic jams.
Public transport was also affected, with few buses running around Amsterdam, Haarlem and Zaanstad. The train network around Haarlem was badly hit.
Snow also led to many flights from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport being delayed. Only one runway was in use and few planes were able to land.
