Security forces in northern Nigeria have been put on full alert following two days of violence by militant Islamists with links to the Taliban.

The Islamists attacked police stations, churches, prisons and government buildings in four northern states, killing at least 100 people. The group is opposed to Western influences in Nigeria and wants to see the introduction of Sharia law.
