The Princess Beatrix Fund's annual prize for scientific research has been awarded to Professor Peter Heutink of Amsterdam's VU University for his work on Parkinson's disease. The prize, worth one million euros, is earmarked for research into Parkinson's disease.
Professor Heutink is a world-renowned expert in the field of genetic research into Parkinson's. His research concentrates on identifying the genetic risk factors that cause Parkinson's. The information should eventually lead to therapy or perhaps a cure for the neurological disease.
The chair of the Princess Beatrix Fund, the conservative VVD MP Laetitia Griffiths, presented the prize at a ceremony in Amsterdam.
