Saudi Arabia has opened its first international university. The King Abdullah University of Science and Technology is co-educational and women will not have to wear the Islamic veil on the campus.
The high-tech complex cost over one billion euros to build and is located in a remote region near the Red Sea. Reformers hope it will spearhead King Abdullah's policy of modernisation and change in the Islamic realm.
