Royal couple end NY visit

Published on 13 September 2009 - 10:09pm
More about:

Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima have on the last day of their visit to New York watched a parade of boats from the Dutch naval frigate Harer Majesteit Tromp. Afterwards, they took a trip through New Amsterdam Village, an immitation Dutch village where visitors can get an impression of Dutch architecture and eat typical Dutch snacks.

The Dutch royal couple visited New York for NY 400 week, which commemorates the journey to the latter Dutch colony 400 years ago by Captain Henry Hudson. The English captain sailed the Halve Maen (Half Moon) to this little island, then inhabited by Native Americans on behalf of the Dutch East India Company. In the decades that followed, the Netherlands set up the colony of New Amsterdam.
