Several hundred demonstrators took to the streets of the Italian capital Rome on Saturday to protest against the country's Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi. They did so after several internet bloggers called for a 'No Berlusconi Day'.
The organisers say 350,000 people attended the protests. Most of them were dressed in purple, the one colour not used by any of the country's political parties. They demanded that Mr Berlusconi resign his office, saying he is undemocratic, does not adhere to the laws of the country and has ties to the Mafia.
Similar demonstrations took place in other cities in Europe. In the Dutch capital Amsterdam dozens of protesters, also dressed in purple, marched through the streets calling out slogans and distributing leaflets.
