Romanian mayor parades in Nazi uniform

Published on 21 July 2009 - 6:37pm
More about:

The mayor of a Romanian town caused uproar on Tuesday when he attended a fashion show in a Wehrmacht uniform.

Radu Mazare is the mayor of the seaport Constanta. Together with his 15-year-old son, Mr Mazare paraded in the uniform of an officer from the German armed services during the Second World War. His son wore the uniform of a lower-ranking Wehrmacht soldier.

The Simon Wiesenthal Centre, an international Jewish human rights organisation, has called on Mr Mazare to resign and stressed that Romanian law forbids the wearing of Nazi uniforms. Mr Mazare said he simply found it a nice looking uniform and that he had always admired the stable organisation of the German army.

"...Romanian law forbids the wearing of Nazi uniforms.".....Angie it is not what he wrote but what he wore. The law might be wrong but until it is changed he will have to fight the injustice of the law. If he knew there was a law for wearing a Nazi uniform, he pushed the envelope and is now paying for it by being stupid. {Why not make it against the law for wearing a burka. It, like the Nazi uniform, is symbol of oppression. Europe is an oppressive state where personal freedoms are being lost daily.
