The mayor of a Romanian town caused uproar on Tuesday when he attended a fashion show in a Wehrmacht uniform.
Radu Mazare is the mayor of the seaport Constanta. Together with his 15-year-old son, Mr Mazare paraded in the uniform of an officer from the German armed services during the Second World War. His son wore the uniform of a lower-ranking Wehrmacht soldier.
The Simon Wiesenthal Centre, an international Jewish human rights organisation, has called on Mr Mazare to resign and stressed that Romanian law forbids the wearing of Nazi uniforms. Mr Mazare said he simply found it a nice looking uniform and that he had always admired the stable organisation of the German army.
