More about:

Holland winger Arjen Robben underwent groin surgery on Friday and will be out for 10 days, according to German officials.

Robben, who has only just returned from a five-week injury lay-off, left the Holland training camp on Wednesday with what appeared to be the aftereffects of a groin inflammation that had kept him out of action since August.

Suspecting groin hernia, the Dutch FA's medical staff told the player to see a specialist for further examination. When the suspicions were confirmed, the FA informed Robben's club Bayern Munich and sent the player to Germany, where he had surgery today.

Bayern officials expect the 27-year-old Dutchman to return to training in ten days. They said the groin surgery was necessary due to the inflammation.

Robben, who helped Bayern to the league and German Cup double as well as reaching the 2010 Champions League final in his first season, has been plagued by injuries since Netherlands lost in last year's World Cup final to Spain.

After a few recent substitute appearances for his club, Robben joined the Dutch squad last Monday for their two upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Moldova and Sweden.
