Love Matters
An RNW website about love, sex, relationships and everything in between.
Here you'll find loads of blush-free information to help you improve your sex life and stay healthy and happy.
Radio Netherlands Worldwide wants to break the taboos surrounding sexuality and sexual health around the world. Today the Dutch international service officially launched its internet platform Love Matters, which highlights sexual issues in a journalistic way in various languages.
The English-language website aimed at India has been on air since late last year. Next month, a Hindi version for India and a Spanish-language version for Latin America will be launched. In the spring of 2012, they will be followed by a French and English-language website focussing on Africa.
Taboos
Sexual taboos can lead to things like unsafe abortions and assaults on homosexuals. As every country has its own set of sexual taboos, local experts are consulted on issues before articles appear on the Love Matters site. In addition, Radio Netherlands Worldwide cooperates with local media partners to ensure the information reaches as many young people as possible.
In India, RNW is working with the country’s largest telecom provider, Reliance Communications. There is lots of interest in the site from media partners in India. “The first results in India are good, with 60,000 hits per day,” says RNW Editor-in-Chief Rik Rensen.
Free speech
Mr Rensen thinks Love Matters is a good example of the kinds of activities the Dutch international broadcaster will be involved in in the future. As of 2013, its core task will be to focus on free speech. “In many countries there is a huge information deficit in the area of sexuality, sexual health, forced marriage, sexual oppression, homosexuality and so on. Large media organisations in India are reluctant to tackle sexual matters, but they can work with us. The same goes for NGOs in India.”
Policy priority
There is a great deal of openness in The Netherlands about sexuality. The government department for Development Cooperation has even included sexual and reproductive health as one of four policy priorities.

Is the sex a taboo?, who this stubid who create this passions insides of us,(the bridge which is between two bankets ,the 3 parameters must be in the same level to do its action),,,, the taboo we choose it only to control our paths to natural life of sex.... who prevent the regular life of some they dont deny the castration, and creating a lane of humans for salivary as body formation,,creating pre human, abusing his regular sex life and cut his birth to live alone as the smart with this putrid thinking,,, the woman is taboo, the sex is taboo, giving birth is taboo , the names is taboo the identity is taboo the relegion is taboo you can obey only and dont cry when we cut your organs to be one of the slaves of the devil
Dear Hiram, Tim and others,
Thank you for your reactions. I'd like to clarify a few points you're raising. For one thing, by "breaking taboos" we mean: helping people to talk about taboos. There is no way we could make any taboo disappear, but we can certainly get people talking about taboos, and that may help them handle these taboos in the context of their own society and their own personal lives.
Then there's the question whether we, RNW, should be doing this. Our mission, as laid down in the Netherlands' Media Law, is to contribute to a better-informed world. In the past we contributed by spreading news and current affairs analyses; perhaps that's why some of you are perceiving us as a "news agency". For a couple of years now, our focus has been shifting towards promoting discussions about touchy subjects, led by the way we talk about them here in the Netherlands. Don't worry about us compromising our journalistic integrity, as everyone who is writing, filming or recording for RNW is bound by its Charter of Editorial Independence. As pointed out in the article above, from 2013 our focus will be on free speech. Talking freely about taboo subjects, in our view, is one way of promoting free speech - whatever the nature of the taboo.
And finally, are we attempting to undermine the authority of the Bible and the Qur'an? No, why should we? Those Holy Books are excellent guides where the principles of love are concerned. But we think they are not very helpful when it comes to the practical, physical and health aspects of love in the 21st century. The sole aim of Love Matters is being helpful in these matters. And in being helpful to others, we are doing exactly what both the Qur'an and the Bible are recommending.
Kind regards,
Rob Kievit

Excellent clarification - very thoughtful! Your site "Love Matters" is comprehensive, explicit and well laid out. I'm sure it will be a great benefit, especially to those who do not have easy access to such information.
I am forced to agree with Hiram. It is not the function of a news agency to "break taboos" on any subject. Taboos, right or wrong, are social mores, ideals rooted in culture and history. What one may see as "taboo" another may see as socially valuable. Neither argument should be supported or dismissed by a legitimate news agency. I fear you have sacrificed your journalistic integrity on the altar of social engineering.
don't force yourself, isn't it full of irresponsible forces in society? it is machinery if only doing what is outlined as responsiblity. A news agency nowadays needs a solid back stage to be brave, LOL
Lalaland, it appears RNW has not read the Kama Sutra or it attempting to break the taboos in order for the young to to follow the teachings of the Kama Sutra.
"Radio Netherlands Worldwide wants to break the taboos surrounding sexuality and sexual health around the world."...Are you saying you are not a news agency? Has RNW taken the place of the Bible and Quran? Are you saying the Teachings of the Bible and Quran are no longer applicable in this humanistic world? Why don't you just investigate and report the news. You stated "In addition, Radio Netherlands Worldwide cooperates with local media partners to ensure the information reaches as many young people as possible." You are biased and not a news agency. It is not the responsibility of a news agency to break taboos but inform the public (young people) with "unbiased" (not your version of what is or isn't morally correct)information and let them make a decision about the news. RNW lacks the ethical standards of journalism when it states it wants to break it's perception of taboos. Ethics! Is that a taboo, also?
Just read the Kama Sutra; there are no taboos to be broken.
