Rescue workers in Philippines seek survivors

Published on 11 October 2009 - 11:10am
More about:

Rescue workers are still attempting to reach people trapped in landslides in the Philippines, where Tropical Storm Ketsana and Typhoon Parma have killed more than 600 people in the past two weeks. Many more are believed to have been buried under mudslides. Entire villages have been destroyed and thousands of people have been evacuated.

Before Typhoon Parma struck last week, Tropical Storm Ketsana caused extensive flooding in the capital Manila and nearby provinces, killing hundreds of people. Around 300,000 residents of the capital are homeless.
