President Obama fiercely criticises Iran

Published on 24 June 2009 - 8:20am
More about:

US President Barack Obama has fiercely criticised the violence used by the Iranian authorities on supporters of the opposition.

The US and the international community are appalled and outraged, said President Obama. He dismissed accusations that the West was behind the demonstrations in Tehran. Iranian leaders have repeatedly blamed the unrest on Western powers.

The Council of Guardians in Iran has given itself another five days to investigate complaints about the 12 June elections. More than six hundred complaints have been submitted. On Tuesday, the council said it saw no reason to declare the election invalid.
