Venezuelans will face regular power cuts in the weeks ahead, as the government tries to reduce power consumption by 20 percent to reduce the burden on the hydroelectric power plants on the Orinoco river. The plants generate 70 percent of Venezuela's electricity but, due to drought, are unable to function at full capacity.
The capital, Caracas, is already experiencing power cuts of four hours every other day, however, public utilities such as hospitals are not affected.
