A mosque has been vandalised in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, on the island of Borneo.
In what authorities think may have a revenge attack by Christians, the mosque’s windows were smashed by bottles. Police have not confirmed that the bottles contained alcohol, which is forbidden to Muslims.
The attack on the mosque follows a string of 11 attacks on Christian churches in Malaysia. The churches were vandalised or set on fire by Muslims angry at the ruling of a Malaysian judge just over a week ago.
The judge decreed that a Roman Catholic newspaper, The Herald, could use the word ‘Allah’ to refer to the Christian God. This angered many Muslims, who believe the word should only be used to refer to the God of Islam.
Roughly 60 percent of the 28 million-strong population of Malaysia is Muslim. Nine percent of the population is Christian.
