Popular support for 'obesitax'

Published on 29 January 2010 - 12:56pm
More about:

The plan of Air France-KLM to make fat people needing an extra seat on flights buy an extra ticket has met with great support. A study among 550 people conducted by skyscanner.net showed that three quarters of all passengers are in support of what has become known as 'obesitax'.

Skyscanner.net is a cheap tickets website. Only 22 percent of the respondents in the study did not agree that fat people should pay more for an extra seat. Advocacy groups are furious. In their view, airlines should provide adapted seats.

In the United States, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines already make fat people pay for an extra seat. The passengers can get back their money later if the plane was not full.
