“I don’t just hate the Poles who work in the Netherlands, I hate all Poles” says Geert Wilders.
It’s not the real Wilders, it’s a satirical programme on Polish television. The Freedom Party leader himself hasn’t gone that far. However, his party does have a website where Dutch people can leave their complaints about Eastern European immigrants. It has been stirring up emotions in Poland for weeks, according to our correspondent Ekke Overbeek.
Szymon Majewski is a well-known Polish comedian with a popular show on the country’s biggest commercial station. In front of a backdrop of windmills, ‘Wilders’ begins the sketch by saying good evening in Dutch (goeie avond). The word goeie, however, means something unpleasant in Polish, so the stage is set. He then explains, in Polish, that he hates all Poles because they drink too much.
Another film, posted on YouTube, has an Asian man telling us that all foreigners, even Dutch, are welcome in Poland. Having nearly been run over by foul-mouthed Dutch people on bikes, he invites all Dutch people to come to Poland for the European football championships. “Poles are friendly and helpful. All the ugly, nasty, greedy Poles are over in the Netherlands”. He is joined by the same fake Wilders who says “Holland for the Dutch.”
Jokes about drugs, euthanasia and abortion follow. The final gag: “You may have a world famous Red Light District, but we have something better. Here you get screwed as soon as you step into a taxi at the airport.”
The Freedom Party’s complaints website has regularly made the news in Poland for over a month. The affair drags on because the Dutch government, which owes its parliamentary majority to Geert Wilders’ support, refuses to disown the website. Prime Minister Mark Rutte says it is an initiative by a political party and has nothing to do with his government. He was asked to appear before the European parliament and explain this stance but chose not to go.
The appearance of a Wilders clone on Polish TV shows that the controversy is beginning to affect the Netherlands image abroad. Until recently, most Poles thought of the Netherlands as a tolerant country, with good job prospects. The number of Polish people in the Netherlands is estimated at between 150 and 200 thousand.

I am Dutch and I live in Amsterdam with my Polish wife. And I do not like Geert Wilders with his anti-East European website. The Polish people over here work very hard, harder than Dutch people. Lubie Polski muziky , Pierogi. Viva polska.

@Paigo: You are saying that Poles are ignorant? Had you read your post before you sent it? I am Polish, I do not smoke, do not drink, I am not Catholic and I am highly educated. Does it fit your stereotype? You have met some Polish workers in the UK and now you think you know everything about us? Do you want me to tell you stories about how Brits behave in Poland or the Netherlands? Open your mind.
@Orangerage: Have you considered talking to your neighbours or calling the police if they disturb you? I normally do not use stereotypes and the history as arguments, but if you do: you do realize that if it had not been for your country, our country would not have suffered so much and would be a well-developed democracy with enough work for all the citizens?
You have to realize that you notice Polish people who cause problems only, but there are also many Poles living in your countries who you do not even see, because they know languages, are properly educated, and behave in a nice manner. Stop being so judgmental and hateful because you aren't better than we are; we are all people and each and every society has some "flaws". You wish that we all come back to our country? Ask your economists how your old populations are going to handle that. You want us to work for you but not to be part of the society. That's very noble.

I like the last sentence from the article. To be honest the image of Dutch was really harmed last time. And this is not only because of the guy who has got crazy idea about reporting Poles on his web page. It is more about the fact that Dutch PM did not pay too much attention to what is happening in his own country. In Poland I would not believe that such web page could be left with no comments from government speaker. In NL it happened I am afraid.....
Oh come on, we're not that bad, at least not all of us. It's normal that in one country you can find different types of people, it's not a rule that we're like this or like that just because we're polish. Example: most of english people that I come across here in Poland are f*ckd up but does it mean that every other is also like that? Doubtfull... So please don't say that EVERY polish is bad because u simply do not know ALL of them...
If polish workers would not be as good as Yours...they would not work there... hello!

well welcome to 21 century ! freedom rules ! you can say anything to any one you want ! i can kill unborn baby - no one will do anything to me ! i can take drugs- no one will care its my own life ! and i can be racist- so does the politics! this is a great life - NOT !is it any ones fault that the had been born as black, white, Asian or any other background? i would not say so ... is just how the world is made. also i don't think many dutch people would work so hard for so little payment like eastern european does. yes i agree some of the poles are annoying, cant behave propyl - but does every dutch, american or any other person from other country behaviors so nice, cultural ? I thinks that the counties like Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Rumania should establish their own union and produce their products instead of being a low cost area for the so “clever and developed” ones. I’m sure it would be a surprise how well we can get along.

Szkoda tylko, że nikt z tych Holendrów itp nie zauważa, że to właśnie dzięki Polakom mają tak dobrze rozwinietą gospodarkę! This is a little bit too much, is my view. If he is expressing a personal view, public does not need to know. If he is talking as an elected MP then he is stepping over the line here and hatred is a bad seed in any society.
If this only to make the headlines then serious voters should think next time they vote! Cowboys will vote him only because they want to be represented by cows!
Foul creatures! They insist on speaking a language I can not understand and the smell of their smoked sausages makes my children cry! My wife cannot plant our tulip bulbs properly for she is constantly distracted by the Marlboro-man like sexiness of our Slavic cheap labour workers. We should deport all the poles back to Ireland!
