Turkish media is reporting that police freed nine girls from a villa north of Istanbul where they had been held for two months. The girls had been beaten and abused.
They were lured to the villa on the pretence of taking part in a reality television show. A newspaper advert called for people to audition for a reality show, scheduled for broadcast by FX TV.
After an initial interview, nine girls were told they had been chosen and they had to sign a contract agreeing to cut off contact with the outside world. There were also told that they would have to pay 23,000 euros if they wanted to leave the villa.
They were traced after the parents of one girl called the police after being unable to trace the television station or the production company. A number of men have been arrested.
