Four people are still in hospital after a bizarre accident in a petrol station on the Dutch A27 motorway on Monday, in which one person was killed.
One of the injured is in critical condition. The man who caused the accident was less severely injured. The 35-year-old from Utrecht drove his car full speed onto the petrol station forecourt, crashing into a car which was filling up and killing the driver. Both cars then ploughed into the petrol station shop where a number of customers were injured.
It remains unclear what caused the man to race his car into the filling station. Police say he will be questioned on Tuesday. A spokesman denied rumours that the man was driving a stolen car.
Witnesses who may have seen the Utrecht man in his car on the road between Meerkerk and Gorinchem (southeast of Rotterdam), or who were on the scene when the accident happened, are being asked to come forward.
