Palestinians reopen Al-Jazeera bureau

Published on 19 July 2009 - 9:21am
More about:

The Palestinian Authority has authorised the Arab news broadcaster Al-Jazeera to reopen its bureau in the West Bank. The Palestinian Authority will, however, sue the news organisation for spreading "false news".

Three days ago the Palestinian information ministry ordered Al-Jazeera to close its office after it aired a report that accused Palestinian Authority President Mahmud Abbas of collaborating with Israel to kill veteran Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in 2004. The conspiracy to poison him allegedly involved Israel's secret service and former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Mr Arafat died of unknown causes in a hospital in Paris in 2004.
