Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani says the military operation against the Taliban in the region of South Waziristan has ended.
Army operations have moved to Orakzai, another region on the Afghan border, as many militants have fled there.
Fighter planes have been bombing Taliban targets in the region for some time.
Pakistani Minister of Internal Affairs Rehman Malik says targets in South Waziristan will continue to be attacked.
In October, 30,000 Pakistani soldiers were deployed to the South Waziristan. Six hundred militants and 80 soldiers are believed to have been killed.
In response to the operation, the Taliban have carried out a number of bomb attacks on military and civilian targets, in particular in the city of Peshawar.
Around 500 people have died in Taliban attacks.
