Pakistan kills 30 militants in air strike

Published on 20 February 2010 - 10:21am
More about:

Suicide attacks targetting two police stations in northwestern Pakistan have left one officer dead and six others injured.

No-one has claimed responsibility for the attacks but the authorities are blaming the Taliban. Ten days ago three suicide attacks on police stations in the same region killed 32 people.

Islamabad says at least 30 militants have been killed in an air strike on an Islamist base in South Waziristan. Pakistan's military has been engaged in a large-scale offensive along the border with Afghanistan against Islamist militants who are being backed by al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
