Pakistan captures Swat Valley Taliban figures

Published on 11 September 2009 - 10:11am
More about:

An important local Taliban spokesman has been arrested during a military operation in the Swat Valley in northern Pakistan. Four other Taliban leaders were caught at the same time.

A reward of 120,000 dollars was being offered for the capture dead or alive of the spokesman, Muslim Khan. His predecessor in the post was caught last month.

The Pakistani authorities say 3000 Taliban fighters and 300 government troops were killed in the army's Swat Valley offensive which lasted from April to July.
