The government is suspending its subsidy to the Islamic College Amsterdam, one of only two Muslim secondary schools in the Netherlands.
Deputy Education Minister Marja van Bijsterveld says the college has enrolled too few students for the third year in a row. The minister could use her discretion to carry on subsidising it, but inspectors find the school below standard.
They indicate it is unlikely that standards at the college will improve soon. Ms Van Bijsterveld says students at the school will be able to finish their courses.
