This week Feedback catches up with some of your praise and your letters delivered by the postman.
First up, we have been struggling with all the loose ends around the new website – with many of our listeners/readers right along with us. Over the past few weeks, this column has highlighted some of your comments and complaints as well as our responses. This week, to our delight, waiting in the var at = '@'; var dot = '.'; document.write('letters' + at + 'rnw' + dot + 'nl'); "> inbox was the following wonderful comment from Mogire Machuki from Kisii, Kenya:
“Greetings from here in Kenya. I have just finished going over your web page... it is always comprehensive, splendid and authoritative. You are a real a bridge to the Netherlands and Europe.”
A heartfelt thank you from our web team – they have been working very, very hard through this hot summer season. Someone else who has been working hard to find the right words is Tochi Peter from Nigeria who, in “searching for a way to express his sincere gratitude to RNW”, decided to send in the following wishes:
“Long live the editorial board of RNW
Long live the staff
Long live the city of Hilversum
Long live the Netherlands”
What overwhelming praise! We will try to live up to such good wishes, and pass them on. Another one of our regular readers/listeners, Ikram Khan from Lahore, Pakistan had nothing but good words to say:
“I have been a regular listener of your English service to this reason for the past ten years. I always enjoy listening to your frank and candid views about social and political issues of the world at large. These days Newsline, Earthbeat and the State We’re in are my favourite programmes.”
While most of the previous listeners/readers have been joyous and generous in their praise, one sad letter arrived recently from Cuba. R Sa’nchez Cha’vez wrote:
“I participated in your competition for Cuban people some time ago. It was very sad that, at the last minute, we were unable to accept the prize. I had so many dreams of listening to you with that radio set, but it was impossible. I wish someday I can hear you clearly.”
We add our best wishes to yours and hope that day is soon.
Finally, when it comes to praise, we receive many wonderful messages from the many listener’s clubs around the globe. Sadly, we do not have a registration system, or indeed any formal way of listing them, but we do appreciate hearing from you. This week we have learned of a new club, The International Broadcasting Listeners Club (IBLC), open to all who enjoy listening to overseas radio broadcasts, started by Sutomo, in West Borneo, Indonesia.
And, we have also received a lovely note of praise from one of our regular listener’s club: Friends Radio Club in Bangladesh, who wrote:
“All of your programmes are informative, educational, and from time to time, life changing.”
Thank you to all of our listeners, we appreciate you too.
