US President Barack Obama has thanked Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende by telephone for the Dutch mission in Afghanistan.
The Government Information Service says the US president expressed his appreciation. The two leaders also discussed the handover of operational control in Uruzgan as of 1 August and the withdrawal of Dutch troops.
It is not known which country will take over control of the Uruzgan mission. A decision is expected to be taken at the end of the month.
As a result the Dutch mission will end definitively in August.
