Diplomats from the Organisation of American States (OAS) have begun arriving in Honduras for today's talks between the de facto rulers of the Central American country and representatives of ousted President Manuel Zelaya.
The talks will focus on an agreement mediated by Costa Rican President Oscar Arias that calls for Mr Zelaya's reinstatement and a unity government until elections are held on 29 November.
The president fled the country after Roberto Micheletti took power in an army-backed coup on 28 June. Two weeks ago, Mr Zelaya slipped back into the country and took refuge in the Brazilian Embassy. Mr Micheletti introduced emergency decrees against pro-Zelaya media and supporters and soldiers are surrounding the Brazilian Embassy.
On Tuesday, 12 members of the Lenca tribe, Honduras' largest indigenous group, sought refuge in the Guatemalan Embassy in the capital Tegucigalpa. The group, which supports Mr Zelaya, say they are being oppressed by the current regime.
