The Organisation of American States (OAS) has said it has little confidence in the current political situation in Honduras and will not send a delegation to monitor presidential elections there on 29 November.
The Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, says he does not believe de facto leader Roberto Micheletti and ousted president Manuel Zelaya will engage in new dialogue to form a unity government. Mr Zelaya, who was toppled from power last June, said it was pointless to rejoin any talks as Mr Micheletti had failed to reinstate him or any of his ministers.
The United States brokered a deal to end the nation's five-month crisis, but last week Mr Zelaya pulled out after Mr Micheletti announced a new "unity" government without his participation. The accord had given the two camps until midnight last Thursday to set up a reconciliation government to represent both sides.
The OAS said it would not honour Mr Micheletti's request to send observers to Honduras for the oncoming elections as long as the de facto leader refused to share power.
