Just like last year, Norway has been selected as the world's most desirable country to live in.
Australia ranks second on the annual Human Development Index drawn up by the United Nations Development Programme. Iceland came third and the Netherlands sixth. The UNDP index was compiled using 2007 data on GDP per capita, education, and life expectancy.
The least attractive countries to live in are Niger, Sierra Leone and Afghanistan. In Niger, life expectancy averages 50 years, 30 years less than in Norway. The salary of an average Norwegian is 85 times higher than his counterpart in Niger.
