Crisis or no crisis, the tenth Millionaire Fair has opened in Amsterdam. Five days of extravagance and luxury for the rich & famous, CEOs, networkers, businessmen and other millionaires or those who would like to get rich.
The fair was opened at the Rai exhibition centre in the south of the Dutch capital on Thursday evening by Australian top model Elle Macpherson. A small but noisy Occupy demonstration was held outside the venue, after demonstrators had been evicted from the Stock Exchange Square by police earlier in the day.
Out of this world
Around 365 luxury companies are at the extravagant glamour event to show their wares. There is everything from art to fashion, watches to jewellery, sports cars to sailing boats, from trips around the world to out of this world. Amsterdam diamond company Gassan Diamonds is displaying Europe’s biggest watch collection and car manufacturer Porsche is showing all its models for the first time - including the new Porsche 911.
The first model of the space shuttle Space Expedition Curaçao is also on view. From 2014, you can buy a ticket for a flight for just 95,000 dollars. But if you’ve got a bit more to spare, you can spend it on a bottle of whisky for 250,000 euros or a classic yacht for 1.5 million.
Remedy
Organiser Yves Gijrath says this year’s fair is about exclusiveness: “I’ve have never seen so many limited editions in once place.” There is no room for crisis is at the Millionaire Fair. “I have just about had it with all the negativity. The best remedy for the crisis is to spend money. And we are doing our best to stimulate that.”
Last year, 53,000 visitors came to the Millionaire Fair. Entry only costs 35 euros, so it is accessible for any budget, but you do need to remember the dress code (Black Tie, Tenue de Ville or Business Suit).
