Switzerland is to cancel its banking secrecy agreement with Dutch clients. Dutch Deputy Finance Minister Jan Kees de Jager made the announcement on Thursday in an interview with the Reuters news agency.
The agreement with Switzerland will make it easier to track down tax evaders because Dutch tax authorities will, from now on, be able to request information about Dutch account holders from Swiss banks.
Last Tuesday, Mr De Jager signed a similar agreement with Belgium.
The Dutch Ministry of Finance is currently conducting similar negotiations with several other countries and tax havens, among them Austria, the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands.
The Dutch authorities estimate that foreign bank accounts hold approximately seven billion euros on which Dutch tax has not been paid.
