A federal court in Nigeria has ordered the cabinet to decide within 14 days if ailing President Umaru Yar'Adua is fit enough to rule the country.
The 58-year-old president has been in a hospital Saudi Arabia for two months receiving treatment for a heart condition. The president has so far failed to formally transfer power to Vice President Goodluck Jonathan. The vice president has been carrying out president Yar'Adua's duties since last week. The ruling comes in response to a case brought by a former MP and lawyer.
The president's absence has led to widespread unrest in Nigeria. On Thursday over 3,000 protesters in Lagos demanded the president either return immediately or hand over power.
