The United Kingdom's best-selling Sunday paper News of the World will no longer support the Labour party.
In the past 13 years, the paper was always a staunch supporter of former prime minister Tony Blair. However, News of the World says "The country is crying out for change". Earlier, the country's biggest daily tabloid, The Sun, announced it would support the candidacy of Conservative opposition leader David Cameron. After initially taking a strong lead over Prime Minister and Labour leader Gordon Brown, Mr Cameron is now ahead by only a few percent.
On Saturday, Gordon Brown presented the main points of his election programme. Economic recovery is his top priority, followed by an increase in the standard of living and social security. The UK government is expected to announce the date of elections soon. Several ministers have hinted that the elections will be held on 6 May.
