New Zealand tops Vision on Humanity's Global Peace Index for 2009.
Out of 144 countries, New Zealand is rated as the world's most peaceful land. It is followed by Denmark and Norway.
Afghanistan, Somalia and Iraq are at the bottom of the list as the world's least peaceful countries. The Netherlands holds the 22nd spot. Fourteen of the top 20 countries are European.
The United States comes in at 82, the United Kingdom at 35 and China at 74. Iceland, which topped last year's list, has lost its number one position due to the political and economic crisis there.
