Cuban media has released fresh video footage of former leader Fidel Castro for the first time in more than a year.
Mr Castro, who was looking stronger and fitter than in recent still photographs, was shown talking animatedly with a group of law students from a Venezuelan university. The former Cuban president, who turned 83 this month, was seen discussing global warming with the students. Cuban state television said the former leader met with the students for about three hours.
A new photo of Mr Castro, which was taken during a visit by Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, was published by the Cuban newspaper Juventud Rebelde on Saturday. The photograph shows Mr Castro standing and wearing a white shirt with a collar.
The former Cuban leader has not appeared in public since he first became ill in July 2006. All images of Mr Castro since then have shown him looking frail and always dressed in a tracksuit.
