The Zimbabwean Public Prosecution has brought new charges against Roy Bennett, an important ally of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.
Mr Bennett will attend court next week accused violating grain laws in 2001. He is already facing treason charges.
His party, the MDC, says the trial is politically-motivated and that its rival, President Robert Mugabe's Zanu PF is behind the accusations.
The Supreme Court is about to withdraw the treason charge, which an earlier court had already dismissed, but the decision has been postponed until 10 May.
The Bennett trial is a source of conflict in the fragile government of national unity in Zimbabwe between Zanu PF and MDC.
He was put forward by the MDC for the post of agricultural minister in 2009, but was arrested shortly before being sworn in.
